What is MFA?
MFA stands for Multi-Factor Authentication. It is a layered approach to securing your data where a system requires you to present two or more credentials to verify your identity in order to login. In short, it is meant to keep your data safe and secure!
Chances are you have seen or used this when accessing your email, personal information, or making big purchases.
This article will show you how to get started with MFA on your SchoolDoc or CampDoc account!

MFA Security Permissions
If you are the Primary Provider at your organization, you will first want to make sure that your security permissions are set to Edit before enabling MFA for your organization. You are also able to give this permission to other primary providers at your organization. For more information on managing permissions and roles for your organization, please see Permissions.
- Log in to your account.
- In the menu, click Settings.
- In the submenu that appears, click General.
- In the Profiles tab, click Permissions.
- In the Select Role box, select the Role that will be responsible for managing MFA settings.
- Under the Security permissions, select Edit.
Note: Providers with Edit access to Security Settings will be able to enable/disable MFA settings for the organization by going to their Provider Portal > Settings > Security. Providers with View access to Security Settings will be able to view the Recovery Passphrase for their organization by going to their Provider Portal > Settings > Security.
Enabling MFA for Your Organization
If you are the Primary Provider at your organization, you can enable MFA for your organization from your Provider Portal. Enabling MFA will require your providers to log in to their CampDoc or SchoolDoc account with their email and password, and an MFA method of their choice.
You will first want to make sure that your security permissions are set to Edit (see section above).
To enable MFA, follow the steps below:
- Log in to your account.
- In the menu, click Settings.
- In the submenu that appears, click Security.
Adding MFA Device to Your Account
To get started, you will want a device that can receive messages (e.g. cellphone) or scan a QR code onto the device you are using for setup (e.g. smartphone or computer). Device options include cellphone, smartphone, tablet, or computer (e.g. MacOS, Windows 7) that you can register to your account.
Ensure you have a SchoolDoc or CampDoc account set up with your organization.
New Users: If you do not have an account yet, contact your organization’s administrator to ensure you will be able to use SchoolDoc or CampDoc.
Returning Users: Be sure to have your username and password ready.
- Log in to your account.
- Upon logging in, you will be prompted to Add MFA Device. Click Add MFA Device.
3. You will be prompted to choose your method: SMS or Authenticator App*.
Note: there can only be one method (SMS or Authenticator App) per user.
SMS: Enter the phone number that you want to authorize to receive MFA codes (standard messaging rates apply). The MFA code will be a 6-digit code that would be input in the available MFA prompt.
Authenticator App (*preferred & most secure): A QR code will pop up on your screen. Scan the QR code using your authenticator app. Enter the 6-digit code that appears on your authenticator app in the available MFA prompt.
View/Update/Remove Your MFA Devices
You are able to view, update, or remove your MFA devices within the Security page in User Settings. Follow the steps below:
- Log in to your account.
- In the upper-right-hand corner of the page, click your name.
- In the menu, click Security.
- Click MFA Settings.
5. Make your changes as needed.
Note: it may take a few minutes to be able to add a new device once you have changed or
deleted your previous device.
MFA Recovery Passphrase
If your organization requires MFA for providers, your organization will have its own unique Recovery Passphrase. This passphrase is visible within MFA Organization Settings in your Provider Portal. You may use this passphrase when requesting an MFA device reset from the DocNetwork Support Team. To view this passphrase, follow the steps below:
- Log in to your account.
- In the menu, click Settings.
- In the submenu that appears, click Security.
Note: after initial setup, this passphrase will be set for your organization as a whole. If the passphrase is regenerated, it will take effect for everyone at your organization.
