Most of the time, the card-issuing bank will allow the refund to process and accept the funds.
If the cardholder has the same card-issuer and bank account, then funds will be successfully credited to that account.
If the cardholder has not yet seen the refund on their account, please advise them to contact their financial institution by calling the phone number on the back of their card.
Refunds must go back to the card used for the original transaction. You cannot refund to a different credit card.
Although rare, there are instances when a closed account is no longer active and the credit card company cannot accept merchant refunds. In this case, the transaction may be bounced back in the form of a positive chargeback. If a chargeback occurs, both the cardholder and organization will receive a notification. You should then work with the cardholder to issue the refund by check or cash.
